3 weeks old and first bath

Friday night was a difficult one...
I woke up to what i thought was Blake crawling back into bed at 12:30am and our conversation went like this... Jamie: Did you just feed him
Blake: Yes I just feed him
Jamie: I did not hear him cry ( i was upset with myself for not hearing him and a little upset that
Blake had feed him because i did not get to nurse him)
Blake: You must have been sleeping hard
So I layed there for a minute mad at myself for not hearing him and getting up with him and since he had just eaten i had better pump(yuck). So I got out of bed and went and pumped. Half way through pumping Carson starts crying so i get untangled from the pump tubes and go and give him his pacifier. He sucks happily on that for a minutes so i go to finish pumping. About two minutes later Carson is SCREAMING, something neither Blake or i had heard before, turns out he has a good set of lungs when he is angry. I go racing in there and Blake comes wide a wake. I grab Carson from his bed but he is still screaming. now i am yelling at Blake.
Jamie: You just feed him right!!!
Blake: No, i have not feed him
Jamie: What do you mean, you said you just feed him!
Blake: the last time i know he ate was 9:30pm(apparently Blake lies in his sleep)
So Blake, Carson and I made our way to the kitchen to warm a bottle up and i finished pumping.
Poor guy he is hungry in his bed, he tells me so and i go in and give him a pacifier, I would be angry too. But it is good to know that he won't sleep through a feeding anymore, which was a problem in the hospital.

Saturday night...
Carson decided that he did not want to sleep in his own bed, instead he wanted to sleep in the chair with mommy and would only cry if you put him in his bed so mommy was up until 2:30 am with him and when i told Blake that he got a turn around 12:00 he told me that he could not be cause i had the goods.(again bad sleep talking) this ticked me off because Carson was not hungry he just did not want to be alone and Daddies can cuddle too! so when the poor guy(Carson) started screaming at me at 2:00 because i was not getting his bottle fast enough i went and gave him to Blake anyway so i could have two hands to get what he wanted. Blake then feed him and i pumped so we would have some in the fridge for any outings later. I was so tired and angry by this point that Blake told me to go to bed and he would take a turn with Carson. Turned out that Carson still did not want to sleep in his own bed so Blake got to sleep in the chair until his next feeding, I then nursed him we put him in his bed, told Blake not to even blink wrong for fear Carson would realize he had been set down, and we both went to bed for a couple of hours. He finally slept in his own bed. Sunday i had a headache but over all we were okay and decided he was still cute and we would not sell him to the Indians.

Sunday night...
Carson nursed really well at 9:30 took a little more from a bottle to top him off. He got wrapped up and set in his bed where he slept for three hours. then at 12:30 i got up and he did not want to nurse at all pure lazy... so he had a bottle of breast milk, wrapped him up and he slept in his own bed for three hours, I pumped and went to bed for two. 3:30 he woke up nursed and went back to bed for another three hours at 6:30 Blake got him up changed his diaper and i nursed him again he then fell back to sleep until 9:00 which meant i actually got to take a quick shower and do my hair at a reasonable hour.
If only all night were like this one he was so good and was such a big boy, nursing so well and sleeping in his bed.

at 9:00 he was not really hungry yet but he was a wake so we decided to try our first sink bath since he seems to be healed nicely. I took his clothes off which he does not like so he cried a little i then set him on his sponge in the sink and he looked at me like *wow this is awesome* as the water enveloped his little body. He was so happy and content the whole time he had a bath it was only when it was time to get out that he squawked a little.
This is him laying in the water

So we may have our moments of hair pulling but over all we are all adjusting to family life and enjoying it. the biggest lesson i have learned this past week is don't take anything Blake says in the middle of the night too seriously.

At his last weigh in on Thursday he was up to 7lbs 2oz, he is more alert, can lift his head to look at you when he is on his tummy and he pulls lots of cute faces and makes lots of grunting and animal like noises in his sleep, i call him a little sheep or my little man, Blake calls him Captain because he is charge of this ship now.

Carson Update 2 weeks old tomorrow

One week old! we love seeing the chubby cheeks

Proud Dad

Just hanging out in my sack on the Boppy

Ahhhh Relaxing while having a bath

When the bath was over

All dressed and ready for the day.

Today while giving Carson a bath, he was doing great. he liked having his face, hair and hands washed. But when I moved the towel away to wash his belly oh did he let out an angry cray at me. He was not happy. Once his belly was washed and covered back up, he was happy to have his legs and feet washed and was tuckered out.

Today we also had our first tummy time on the floor. My little man picked his head up and turned it the other direction and set it back down. What i strong little neck he has.

We are working on breastfeeding sadly we don't have that down yet so feeding time during the day goes something like this...
1. Change diaper
2. Practice breastfeeding for 10mins or so
3. bottle feed pumped breast milk
4. burp and cuddle until back a sleep.
5. spend the next 20min pumping so we have something to feed him next time.
I will be so glad when we can eliminate the pumping process and just breast feed. the nurses and lactation specialists say that it could take up to two weeks after his due date(10/30/11) for him to really breastfeed. Until then we spend time practicing and we go see the lactation specialist once a week.

Well i think that is all for now
Love you Little man Carson
